Itinerary
Day 1: Fès to Merzouga
Depart from Fès in the morning and drive through Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Continue to Azrou to visit the cedar forest and Barbary macaque monkeys. Enjoy lunch in Midelt and pass through the scenic Ziz Valley, filled with palm groves. Arrive in Merzouga by late afternoon and embark on a camel trek into the Sahara Desert. Spend the night in a desert camp with dinner and traditional music.
Day 2: Merzouga to Dades Valley
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes and take a camel trek back to Merzouga for breakfast. Drive through Rissani, visit the local market, and continue to Todra Gorge for a walk through the stunning canyons. After lunch, head towards the Dades Valley, known for its impressive rock formations. Spend the night in a local hotel.
Day 3: Dades Valley to Ouarzazate
After breakfast, drive through the scenic Dades Valley, stopping at viewpoints to admire the landscapes. Continue to the Valley of Roses and visit a cooperative producing rose water. Pass through the Skoura Oasis and visit the Kasbah Amridil, a well-preserved historical site. Arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to its film studios, and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 4: Ouarzazate to Ait Benhaddou and Marrakech
After breakfast, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, a famous ksar (fortified village) featured in many films and TV shows. Continue through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, enjoying breathtaking views along the way. Stop for lunch and visit local cooperatives producing argan oil. Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon and check into your hotel.
Day 5: Departure from Marrakech
Spend the morning exploring any remaining sites in Marrakech, such as the Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, or the Majorelle Garden. Take some time to do last-minute shopping in the bustling souks or enjoy a relaxing coffee in a local café.
